Guesthouse Delight
This cozy Texas guest house shows off all the right kind of farmhouse style.
When you have 40 acres of property,
you can spare a bit of it for a guesthouse that rocks its farmhouse style. When designer Ashley Moore of Moore House Interiors came on to help this family decorate and style their guesthouse, it was already situated among the trees. “It was on the 40-acre estate when our clients bought it,” Ashley says.
The guesthouse showcases traditional farmhouse architecture, from the red board-and-batten siding to the zinc metal roof with two slopes and even the small domed cupola that gives it character. The guesthouse rests on a slope, and at the base of the house, the builders used stone as siding near the ground, which ties it into the surrounding land and provides a rustic farmhouse feel.
Ashley added front-porch charm to the already delightful guesthouse. “The guesthouse had great bones and just needed minor upgrades to really transform the space,” she says. “The client wanted to maintain the farmhouse feel while including simple updates to make it a bit more modern and comfortable for guests.”
The architecture didn’t need to change, so Ashley focused on styling and exterior décor pieces that would give guests a warm welcome when they walked up the steps. “We updated the exterior light and fan and added an antique church pew, wreath and other décor pieces to make the exterior feel more welcoming for our guests,” she says. Together with the architecture of the home itself, this guesthouse is ready for visitors to come stay awhile.
