SILENT NIGHTS

Natural Christmas décor with a neutral palette inspires a relaxing haven in this Virginia bedroom.

Beautifully wrapped gifts are easier than you might think.

Check out these top tips from Jenna Kate.

• COLOR SCHEME. An easy way to make your gifts look great is to match them to the color scheme of your tree. “When I wrap my gifts, I usually have a color scheme in mind. In this case, I had them matching the tree,” says Jenna. This helps create a cohesive, streamlined look instead of a menagerie of various wrapping papers.

• BOXES, BOXES. Get the best box for the job. Jenna likes to have a variety of boxes when she wraps Christmas presents, but prefers square boxes as they’re the easiest to put ribbon on. One tip is to keep shipping boxes from the packages delivered to your home. By Christmas, you’ll have a range of sizes and shapes to choose from.

• RIBBON FRENZY. To make the gifts look full and luxurious, use more than one ribbon. “I use two strips of ribbon,” Jenna says. “One around one side of the box and one around the opposite side. I hot glue them underneath the box and pop the bow on top!” If you plan to use the same Christmas colors next year, save the tied ribbons so they’re easy to use again.

• TEXTURE TACTICS. Have fun with the texture of your gifts. For example, when it comes to picking ribbon, Jenna doesn’t mind mixing it up a bit. “I’ve got dollar-store ribbons, Target ribbons, all kinds,” she says. “A variety of ribbons adds different textures and dimensions to give the presents a more professional look.”

The 7 ½-foot flocked tree was left over from homeowner Courtney Davey’s winter-themed wedding in 2016, and she displays it in her bedroom for some holiday magic. “It’s a cheap tree, so I stuff it with ribbons, ornaments and flowers to make it look fuller,” she says. “I cascaded sage and champagne ribbons down the tree and wove them in and out of the branches.”
