SANTA’S WORKSHOP

-

A Santa Claus-inspired theme and fun pops of color combine with touches of farmhouse charm to create a cozy and inviting feel in this California home.

We’re all cooped up together this Christmas, so it’s more important than ever to have a calming space to escape the bustle of the house. Here’s how to create a relaxing getaway in your bedroom to ensure that all five senses experience the magic of Christmas.

• SEE. Lighting has a huge impact on the feel of a space.

Light candles and lamps for dim lighting options rather than harsh overhead lights. Then hang twinkle lights across your headboard for a soft glow. “It can really change the theme of the room,” says Courtney.

• SMELL. Not only are candles good for their soothing light, but their scents can bring holiday smells to your bedroom. Whether it’s the smell of Christmas cookies, pine trees or cinnamon, there’s a candle out there for you.

• TASTE. It doesn’t hurt to have a nightstand stash of your favorite Christmas cookies, toffee or candy canes to enjoy— especially if you need to snack away from tiny, eager hands.

• TOUCH. You can pile blankets and pillows on every surface of the room or strategically place a few options on the bed and your favorite chair. Nothing says comfy quite like a fuzzy blanket and some hot chocolate. “Choose items that make the space feel cozy,” says Courtney.

• HEAR. Don’t forget your favorite Christmas music. Curl up on your bed with a good book and the soothing tones of Frank Sinatra singing “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” in the background. Choose songs that have a nostalgic feel, or pick your new favorite artist’s holiday album.
