American Farmhouse Style

EDITOR’S LETTER

-

This year has been a doozy, hasn’t it? As much as the holiday season can be a time of cheer and celebration, it can also be a very lonely time for those who have experienced loss this year—whether that’s a loved one or a job due to COVID19, or anything else. So this Christmas, I want to remind you of a few things.

You are not alone. I personally know what’s it’s like to grieve during the holidays, and it’s not fun. If loneliness or isolation plagues your holiday season this year, I want to tell you that you are loved—both by your immediate community and through this farmhouse community. If you’re looking for immediate ways to connect with people right now, I would encourage you to join the farmhouse community online, especially through Instagram. You farmhouse fans are such encouraging, nice people! It’s been a blessing to stay connected to you all this year.

Christmas is a season of hope. Especially as home décor enthusiasts, we tend to get caught up in the decorating and beautifying of Christmas, and sometimes forget what’s at the core of Advent: hope. With fewer events and gatherings this year, it’s a good opportunity to step back from the usual busyness of the holiday season. If you need more hope this holiday season, return to the reason we celebrate Christmas in the first place.

Christmas doesn’t have to be dreary this year. Finally, if you’re sad about missing your town’s annual Christmas tree lighting or another event that’s been canceled this year, take the time instead to make your home an extra special place to be. There’s something about decorating for Christmas that freshens things up and makes those spaces feel new and alive again. 2020 has made it more clear than ever how important it is for your home to be a safe haven, and Christmas is the perfect time to highlight that in your own farmhouse. Plus, that’s what we’re here for! I hope you find a ton of amazing inspiration for your own home in these pages, and that it can brighten this 2020 holiday season for you, even for just a bit.

Here’s to you, friends, and Merry Christmas!
