Three ways to add earthy overtones to your home’s design
1. ORGANIC MATERIALS. One of the reasons Sarah’s home seems so natural is because it is. She puts her husband Dan’s woodworking expertise to good use and adds wood accents throughout her home. The custom mantelpiece, trim on the stove hood and mudroom coat rack are a few examples. 2. POPS OF GREEN. From tall potted plants to simple branches in a vase, Sarah plays with different ways to display greenery. Sometimes it’s as easy as putting a few leafy branches in a clear vase. Of course, you can never go wrong with a bright bouquet of flowers, but an arrangement of eucalyptus and myrtle or rosemary and ferns can also add a calming, woodsy element to a room. 3. BASKETS. The woven baskets throughout Sarah’s home not only add to her organic design, but also serve as extra storage. They’re versatile and can hold blankets, towels or potted plants. Their neutral color allows them to move from room to room, depending on what current needs dictate.
