Housing TRENDS
Designer Kelli Fontana Vogelgesang shares two of the latest
trends in housing and land development.
PANDEMIC PRIORITIES. “Because of the pandemic, we predict a resurgence in large estate-style homes in various architectural styles with rooms for specific activities,” Kelli says. This might include separate home offices for video calls, a family study for online learning and workout and yoga rooms.
CREATIVE LICENSE. Due to a shortage of homes and lots on the market, Kelli believes people are going to move away from city centers toward the country and become more creative about how they use their homes. For example, we may see more repurposing of commercial buildings for housing and creating homes out of structures like barns and industrial garages. “With so many of us able to work from home, the possibilities for change in the housing industry are endless,” she says.
