WALLFLOWERS

Wall treatments are a great way to make a big impact in your home. Here are three ways to improve your wall game and elevate your spaces.

-

1. PRETTY PAPERS. Wallpaper has made a huge comeback, and designers are using it in creative ways. For example, in this rear prep kitchen, floral wallpaper covers the top half of the wall above the wainscoting.

2. TILE IN STYLE. Consider mixing your tiles. In the kitchen, hexagonal tiles are on the hood, while smaller arabesque tiles cover the wall behind the open shelves. “The dialog between the layers of elements keeps the eye interested,” Kelli says.

3. SHIP(LAP) AHOY. Shiplap is a wonderful farmhouse wall detail. Often shiplap is painted white or ivory, but Kelli shows how chic it can be in other colors. In the basement lounge area, the shiplap above the fireplace is a rich gray that gives the room a moody coziness.

?? ?? Most kitchen islands have all the stools in a row. “This is great for couples, but for families, well, I like to look at my kids when we are sharing a meal, and these days the island has become the dinner table,” Kelli says. Having stools at the ends of the island allows for eye contact and conversations with the whole family. Instead of just one of these communal islands, Kelli thought it would be epic to have two. “So that’s what we did,” she says.

The rear prep kitchen space includes a 30-inch refrigeration/freezer column, a hammered-copper sink, a brass faucet and white farmhouse pendant lights. Green cabinets and floral wallpaper entice the eyes. “I love color, and this green tint is such an upbeat yet timeless hue,” Kelli says. “I thought it complemented the wallpaper beautifully.”
