Meet this farmhouse-style expert who’s not afraid of a good DIY.

Shanna Walker is a wife, mother, auntie and the voice behind Simply Mine Designs. She lives in Utah with her family and has connected with the online farmhouse community through her journey to transform her forever home—a fixer upper—into her dream home. Here’s a bit about her and her home.

American Farmhouse Style: How did you get involved with the online farmhouse community?

Shanna: When I stumbled upon the home décor community on Instagram, I knew I’d found my tribe. Taking a chance and posting that first photo of my home was scary for me. But it has become so much more than just home décor. I have gained self-confidence, true friends and opportunities I never dreamed possible.

AFS: How did you pick the name Simply Mine Designs?

Shanna: I believe in being your true, authentic self in every aspect of your life. My décor style and my home are a reflection of that. I love thinking outside the box when I’m styling a space. I want my home décor to be unique, cozy, welcoming and Simply Mine.

AFS: What’s your favorite room in your house, and why?

Shanna: My kitchen. Not only is it where we spend the most time as a family, it’s also the room that has come the furthest. We have quite literally poured our hearts into designing a space that we love and are proud of.

AFS: What’s been your favorite DIY to date?

Shanna: There are so many! But I think my favorite was the storage cabinet we built out of a set of old bookcases, complete with beautiful barn doors. It’s still my most asked-about DIY.

AFS: Do you have any fun projects coming up that you’d like to share?

Shanna: Next I really want to finish the bathroom in our basement and put shiplap and wood beams on my living room ceiling.
