This cabin features a variety of beautiful ceiling details that draw the eye upward. Here are designer Elizabeth and Bhavana’s three favorite ways to add interest above your head.

1. WALLPAPER. Whether bold and playful or whimsical and delicate, wallpaper on the ceiling is fun and unexpected.

2. LIGHTING. Light fixtures are natural ways to enhance your ceiling—and do double duty as they add both style and light. Try chandeliers, especially in spaces that have higher ceilings.

3. EXPOSED BEAMS. Exposed wood beams add a touch of rustic romance to any room. This is a project you can add to your ceilings after the home is built, and you can even do them yourself as a DIY.

Plants are a great addition to any home, whether faux or real. “In this lake home, we used many faux plants as part of the design to add life and a natural element, but also additional comfort, since this is a second home that is visited mostly on weekends and over holidays,” Bhavana says.
