the Table HOW TO SET
The design of your table is the main decoration at a brunch. Choose the design to work with the food and your home’s tastes.
1. COLOR PALETTE. You can take your color hues from the décor decorations you have, but you can also use the food itself. “Your food becomes a styling element throughout your table, and complementing their hues with the colors you choose creates a well-balanced table,” Shellie writes.
2. TABLE RUNNER. This is the foundation of your table, so it’s a great opportunity to set the mood of the table while not covering the whole tabletop—especially if you’re serving on a farm table. “Drape your runner from corner to corner, rather than the more traditional method of running it down the middle of the table, to create movement and add a twist to your presentation,” Shellie writes.
3. FRUIT FOCUS. Fruit can be its own design element, which then serves double duty as food for guests to eat too. “Placed throughout the table, the plums, blueberries, blackberries, grapes, cherries, apricots and oranges on this table add a variety of gorgeous colors,” Shellie writes. “The repetition creates a natural pattern and sense of movement across the table.”
4. ADD TEXTURE. “The textures we encounter have the power to grab our attention and draw us into the experience: the curling bark on a tree, a velvety flower petal, or the smooth surface of a rock,” Shellie writes. “Similarly, textures on your table create visual interest and guide the onlooker through your tablescape design.”
