CABIN in the Woods
A farmhouse style home gets a rustic exterior to fit in with the Wyoming forest.
Farmhouse style homes come in all different variations. From crisp and clean modern farmhouses to a look that feels more rustic or bucolic in tone, there’s a style of farmhouse for everyone to fall in love with. This dainty 1,000-square-foot home in Wilson, Wyoming—a very small town just outside of Jackson— was built to match the property’s main house. The clients, a family of five, asked WRJ Design Associates to create a guest cabin. Working with the architect team Northworks, they selected exterior cladding in reclaimed barn wood for a countryside feel, with a standing seam metal roof to offer an element of modernity. Inside, the ceilings are covered in shiplap with reclaimed timber to continue blending modern and rustic farmhouse modes. Despite its size, the cabin can sleep six or more people (thanks to four bunk beds) to provide space for visitors. The entry opens up to views on the north and south, past a pond and pasture to the park’s majestic mountains. Surrounding the property are ample natural wonders, including spruces, cottonwoods and aspens that are 40, 50 and 60 years old, creating a private and wooded atmosphere that any farmhouse lover will enjoy.
