Wainscoting refers to any type of wall paneling that reaches partway up the wall. You can have wainscoting with shiplap, board and batten, reclaimed wood or even tile in a bathroom. You can also have different heights of wainscoting— traditionally it’s 36-42 inches from the floor, but you can go higher if you like the look.

Even newer builder-grade homes can gain character through dining room architecture. Homeowner Heather Tartaglia added shiplap and exposed ceiling beams, then topped off the design with a vintage side table and old grocery store sign.
