ROLL OUT THE VINYL MATS
To change the look of a room and add comfort to wood floors, you can add a rug. But did you know that vinyl mats are increasing in popularity? Kim Wilson from V-MAT explains the considerations to make when choosing vinyl or a braided floor-covering materi
• SIZE. Many traditional area rugs come in standard sizes, but vinyl offers more flexibility. “We are seeing a growing number of customers who prefer a custom or one-piece L-shape mat to cover their kitchen floor around the island,” says Kim.
• CLEANING. Does the room have high traffic or low traffic? If it’s a formal sitting room or another area with fewer visitors, a braided rug might be a good option. But for high-traffic areas that need frequent cleaning, waterproof vinyl mats are the ticket. They’re simple to wipe clean with a wet cloth or a broom. Each V-MAT is also waterproof and stain resistant.
• ALLERGIES. If you have anyone in your household with pet or dust allergies, carpet or large braided area rugs might increase allergy discomfort. The V-MAT floor coverings are hypoallergenic and don’t trap allergens. “We find that vinyl mats ‘have it all’ and provide a better and more practical solution,” says Kim. Since they’re as easy to clean as wood floors, they work well for keeping dust and pet hair at bay.
• FUNCTIONALITY. Vinyl mats are very practical, and will even work outdoors under a covered area. Take a look at each mat or rug you consider for its comfort and safety. V-MATs are anti-slip and aren’t a tripping hazard. “Look at [your] main concerns when it comes to floor covering, and then search for the best fit,” says Kim.
