DUTCH DOOR

-

Since the 17th century, Dutch doors have been a staple of farmhouse architecture. Adapted from the double-hung barn door design of the same period, Dutch doors allow breezes and sunlight to flow into the house without letting small children out or barnyard animals in. They work equally well as interior doors—you can use them as baby or pet gates.

When it comes to ordering a front door, make sure you get good quality that will last for years and hold up to the weather outside. Most front doors cost between $1,500 and $5,000.

INSIDER TIP: DIY your own Dutch door by cutting your existing door in half. You’ll also need to rework the locks and add a deadbolt to the top half.
