UPCYCLED FURNITURE

Make your remodel unique by adding vintage, upcycled furniture. For example, instead of a new vanity in a bathroom, consider repurposing a vintage dresser to house your new sink and fixtures. Similarly, large old dressers or store counters can make beautiful kitchen islands. Give the piece new life with a good clean and a fresh coat of paint (see page 34 for more on furniture paint). Worried about water damage?

Add a marble or stone top to the original piece. For a small vanity, you might score a stone remnant from your contractor or an architectural salvage store.

INSIDER TIP: When shopping for furniture to upcycle, look at the size and shape rather than the color. You can always repaint it, but if the piece is too big or the shape doesn’t fit your style, it won’t work.
