Lee Glazer has been named the founding director of the Lunder Institute for American Art at Colby College. Glazer comes from the Smithsonian Institution’s Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, where she is curator of American art...max Hollein has been named the next director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Hollein currently leads the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and has demonstrated skill in building collections, diversifying audiences and broadening institutional development. He will assume the role in the summer of 2018...The Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth will be renovated and expanded, opening to the public January 2019 after two years of construction. Designed by Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects, the new space will double the size of the museum’s exhibition spaces and triple the size of its teaching space...a $2 million gift from the J. Sanford Miller family has allowed the University of Virginia’s Fralin Museum of Art to endow a new directorship. The Bicentennial Professors Fund will match the gift with $1 million, for a total of $3 million in support of the new position...the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts has announced Brittany Webb as the curator of the John Rhoden Collection, which consists of more than 275 works by the African American sculptor... The National Endowment for the Arts has awarded the Chrysler Museum of Art a $40,000 planning grant. The gift will help the museum plan an exhibition titled Jefferson and Palladio: Designing Young America, exploring how Thomas Jefferson’s architectural designs were influenced by Andrea Palladio, and opening in October 2019...The board of trustees of the Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library have announced the appointment of Carol B. Cadou as the first Charles F. Montgomery Director and CEO of Winterthur. Cadou comes from George Washington’s Mount Vernon and will succeed David P. Roselle when he retires after serving 10 years as director...princeton University Art Museum has named Bart J. C. Devolder as the new conservator of collections. Berry has been named acting director at Cranbrook Academy of Art. He will hold the position while a national search begins for a new permanent director...the Armory Show has appointed Eliza Osborne as the deputy director of the show. Osborne will oversee the VIP program, manage strategic partnerships and strengthen the fair’s relationships with collectors, galleries and institutions worldwide... The Hyde Collection has received multiple significant donations. A $30,000 donation from Stewart’s Shops and the Dake family will help renovate the Helen Froelich Auditorium, and another anonymous donor has pledged a $100,000 matching gift...leslie Hindman Auctioneers has appointed Kate Waterhouse as vice president of its Florida operations. Waterhouse will oversee the expansion of auctions, appraisals and special events in the state, where the auction house currently has offices in Naples and Palm Beach, with plans to expand to Miami...the Museum of Modern Art has announced the appointment of Rob Giampietro as its new design director. He joins the museum from Google, where he worked as a design manager.
