Spirited internet and telephone bidders competing against a packed showroom of buyers helped push Grogan & Company’s June 3 Spring Auction to a robust $2.3 million in sales. More than 400 lots of fine art, jewelry and decorative art came to market, including works the Estate of T. Lux Feininger, son of artist Lyonel Feininger.

The grouping brought more than $700,000 and attracted international interest, with several bidders traveling from Europe to see the works in person and attend the sale.a number of works by the elder Feininger drew attention, including The Watch Tower (est. $15/25,000) at $48,800, but the top lot of the collection was a watercolor and pencil portrait of Julia Feininger by Otto Dix.the drawing, which had a presale estimate of $8,000 to $12,000, sold for $67,100.

Outside the collection,alfred Thompson Bricher’s Summer Afternoon (Grand Manan) was a standout.the work, one of the artist’s paintings of the Canadian island, came from a consignor who had owned the piece for more than 50 years. It shot well above its presale estimate of $30,000 to $50,000, when it achieved $79,300.
