Claude Monet’s Meules made auc­tion his­tory at Sotheby’s Im­pres­sion­ist & Mod­ern Art Evening Sale in May when it sold for $110,747,000.An il­lus­tri­ous work from Monet’s es­teemed Haystack se­ries shat­ters the pre­vi­ous record for the high­est amount ever paid for a work by Monet. It also marks the first im­pres­sion­ist work ever to rise past the $100 mil­lion thresh­old at auc­tion.
