The author of the Declaration of Independence, Founding Father and the nation’s third president, Thomas Jefferson was also one of the most accomplished architectural thinkers of the time. among these things, he was also a slave owner.an upcoming exhibition at virginia’s Chrysler Museum of Art, Thomas Jefferson, Architect: Palladian Models, Democratic Principles and the Conflict of Ideals, explores this divergence alongside his extraordinary architectural influence.the exhibitions looks at Jefferson’s growth as an architect, including models, rare books, paintings, drawings, early photographs and architectural elements—130 objects in total—as well as bricks, nails and other components from Jefferson’s buildings that were created by enslaved laborers and craftsmen.the exhibition opens October 19 and runs until January 19, 2020.
