Nantucket, a small island located off of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, is a charming whaling village with cobblestone streets and cedar-shingled buildings.the island is awash in the history of the whaling industry paved by 17th-century settlers, an industry still thriving today, as well as centuries of art, antiques and artifacts that shape the town.and

the annual Nantucket Summer Antiques Show is part of what makes Nantucket a prime summer destination year after year. From Friday, August 2, through Sunday, August 5, 32 of the foremost dealers in the country and several from the United Kingdom will exhibit the finest art and antiques across a range

of categories, including antique and mid-century furniture, marine antiques, paintings, photographs, prints and botanicals, antique flags, silver, vintage rugs and garden antiquities.a special interest in the history of Nantucket lends to the showing of a number of antique wicker, folk art, jewelry, clocks and majolica as well.

“I think Nantucket, just by its very nature, is an incredibly historic town. It was a whaling village and the people who live here are extremely protective of that,” says Kaye Gregg, director of shows for the Antiques Council, which organizes the Nantucket Show.“so we feel like [it’s important to have] a show that’s really focused on being an antique and art show—it’s about the history of the island and maintaining that history, maintaining the respect for that.” Dealers at the 2019 show include the Cooley Gallery, David Brooker

Fine Art, Paul Madden Antiques, Lotus Gallery, Rehs Galleries and many others. New to the show this year are L. Parker Stephenson Photographs, dealing in 20th-century black-andwhite photography; Lillian Nassau, a premier dealer in the works of Louis Comfort Tiffany; and several others.

Jeff R. Bridgman American Antiques, which has participated in past Nantucket shows, brings antique American flags, says Gregg.“they’re history personified, but they’re also wonderfully graphic so they work well as wall art,” she adds. This year, the Antiques Council has partnered with the Nantucket Historical Association (NHA) to align the Summer Antiques Show with NHA’S major fundraising event, Nantucket by Design.an opening night preview party benefitting the NHA on Thursday August 1 marks the start of the Nantucket Summer Antiques Show. In addition, the Nantucket Summer Antiques Show also makes a contribution to the scholarship fund for the Nantucket Garden Club and the Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention.
