An exhibition at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco’s Legion of Honor showcases the work of James Tissot, one of the most celebrated French artists of the 19th century, although lesser known than many of his contemporaries today. James Tissot:

Fashion & Faith, running October 12 to February 9, 2020, presents new scholarship on the artist’s oeuvre, technique and life, with an in-depth reassessment of the artist through a modern day, 21st-century lens. Coordinated by the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and the Musées d’orsay et de l’orangerie in Paris, the show will include about 60 paintings by Tissot, as well as drawings, prints, photographs and cloisonné enamels.
