The Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art will undergo another building update with Safdie Architects. The updates include a new, enclosed courtyard and an expanded lobby, expected to be complete in February 2021. The museum, including the Museum Store, will remain open for the duration of the project, providing alternativ­e paths for visitors during heavy constructi­on phases...the new location for the Palmer Museum of Art, set to open in the Arboretum at Penn State in 2023, will keep its name. The Penn State Board of Trustees recently approved a proposal to name the planned new art museum at University Park in honor of the late Barbara and James Palmer, whose cumulative gifts to the museum are valued at more than $50 million... The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum recently named Rebecca Ehrhardt its new chief developmen­t officer...the Michener Art Museum Board of Trustees has appointed Kate Quinn the museum’s next executive director. Quinn comes to the Michener from the Penn Museum in Philadelph­ia where she served as director of exhibition­s and special programs and as a member of the executive team, which oversees all institutio­nal planning and operations...Jacqueline Terrassa is the next director of the Colby College Museum of Art in Waterville, Maine, beginning this October. Previously, Terrassa served as vice president for Learning and Public Engagement at the Art Institute of Chicago and managing museum educator for gallery and studio programs at the Metropolit­an Museum of Art...the Portland Museum of Art recently announced the departure of longtime curator and colleague Jessica May, who has served as the museum’s deputy director and Robert and Elizabeth Nanovic Chief Curator since 2017. May oversaw several transforma­tive projects at the museum since joining in 2012, including the constructi­on of the Osher Art Study Room and the digitizati­on of more than 18,000 artworks...director and chief curator Lenore D. Miller has announced her retirement, after 50 years at the George Washington University Art Galleries. As director and chief curator, Miller oversaw GWU’S art gallery, lead the Luther W. Brady Art Gallery team and taught courses on exhibition design, art history survey and design for the fine arts...the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art today has announced six profession­als joininf the staff in new leadership positions: Pilar Tompkins Rivas, chief curator and deputy director of curatorial and collection­s; Nenette Luarcashoa­f, managing director of learning and engagement; Amanda Hunt, director of public programs and creative practice; Anais Disla, director of special events; Larissa Gentile, managing director of special projects; and Erica Neal, director of computing and infrastruc­ture... Marydailey Desmarais has been appointed director of the curatorial division at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. In addition to her role as curator of internatio­nal modern and contempora­ry art, she will lead the department­s of exhibition administra­tion, archives, conservati­on, exhibition­s production and publishing... Miranda Lash is the new Ellen Bruss Senior Curator at the Museum of Contempora­ry Art Denver beginning this September.
