CONSTRUCTION

American Survival Guide - - GEAR GUIDE -

Whatever type of shelter you build, it needs to stay in place. Heavy rains or a windstorm can quickly destroy your shelter if it’s not constructed correctly.

The following are all quick and easy things to do, and you will see that they make a difference—but do it right the first time!

• Cut notches where your timbers meet to ensure a strong, tight fit. • Use cordage to lash materials together.

• On a lean-to, weave smaller, more-supple, branches horizontally between your main poles to add strength.
