Anglers Journal

ODE TO A BROOK TROUT

-

I picked up the Winter 2018 issue of Anglers Journal at a Food Lion in Beaufort, North Carolina. It stood out among the usual selection of fishing magazines. I flipped through it quickly and added it to the “provisions” my wife, Sherry, and I picked up for an evening on our sailboat.

Once settled, I pulled out the magazine and noticed the quality of the paper, the colors and the solid feel. Incredible photography! Then I found “Fish,” Tom Absher’s poem about a brookie. I read it twice to myself, then aloud to my wife. We fish late spring, summer and early fall for big red drum on a 20-foot bay boat. Catch and release, pictures and tape measures, but that poem highlights the power of what you’re publishing.
