TAKE A BOW

Active Interest Media’s Marine Group, of which Anglers Journal is a part, won 17 Boating Writers International awards earlier this year, including five first-place honors, and an additional 14 certificates of merit.

AJ editor-in-chief Bill Sisson took first place in the columns category for “Between Fish.” Jay Fleming took the top honor in the photography category for the images that illustrated “Just Scraping By” (above) in the Winter 2017 issue of AJ, which profiled the watermen of Tangier Island, Virginia, and challenges they face. Ron Ballanti won second place in the boating profiles category for “Monster Man,” a story about mako fisherman Capt. Steve Quinlan in the Spring 2017 issue.
