DIT stu­dents are also en­cour­aged to work on cut­ting-edge VR and cus­tom hard­ware projects, with the school pro­vid­ing 5x HTC Vive and 3x Ocu­lus Rift set­ups for mul­ti­ple stu­dent teams. DIT’s Mu­sic and Sound De­sign fa­cil­i­ties are equipped with in­dus­try-stan­dard hard­ware and soft­ware for mu­sic and au­dio pro­duc­tion. DIT’s two sound labs fea­ture 27” Ap­ple iMac dig­i­tal au­dio work­sta­tions equipped with Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Si­belius, Pure Data, com­mer­cial sam­ple li­braries, and more. Work­sta­tions are also equipped with Win­dows PCs for cross-plat­form soft­ware de­vel­op­ment, al­low­ing sound de­sign stu­dents to col­lab­o­rate seam­lessly with in­ter­dis­ci­pli­nary game de­vel­op­ment teams in the Game Soft­ware De­sign & Pro­duc­tion depart­ment. The labs also func­tion as screen­ing halls for lec­tures, demon­stra­tions, and col­lab­o­ra­tion with an­i­ma­tion and game de­vel­op­ment teams. DIT’s record­ing stu­dio fea­tures two live rooms and a con­trol room equipped with Avid C24 dig­i­tal con­sole, Pro Tools HDX, SSD Mac Pro, 5.1 sur­round mon­i­tor­ing and mix­ing with Fo­cal Solo Se­ries speak­ers, and Hear Tech­nolo­gies per­sonal mon­i­tor mixer sys­tem. The Mathews Sound Lab also fea­tures two smaller record­ing stu­dios for voice record­ing and solo in­stru­ment track­ing. Stu­dio and labs are equipped with acous­tic and elec­tronic pi­anos and drums, as well as mo­bile record­ing work­sta­tions, stu­dio mi­cro­phones and preamps, and field record­ing equip­ment. DIT’s acous­ti­cally-iso­lated prac­tice rooms in­clude Wenger’s Vir­tual Acous­tic En­vi­ron­ments sys­tem for sim­u­la­tion of per­for­mance space acous­tics.
