Oc­to­ber is a busy month for TV and dig­i­tal con­tent pro­duc­ers, buy­ers and dis­trib­u­tors as the MIPCOM mar­ket kicks into gear at the Palais des Fes­ti­vals in Cannes (Oct. 15-18).

An­ime lovers know Pro­duc­tion I.G as the stu­dio be­hind such clas­sics as Pat­la­bor, Ghost in the Shell, Neon Ge­n­e­sis Evan­ge­lion and Blood: The Last Vam­pire. This year, Nip­pon TV is bring­ing the stu­dio’s new an­i­mated se­ries Run with the Wind to the mar­ket. The strik­ing new show cen­ters on a Ja­panese col­lege long-dis­tance race (known as eki­den). The ex­cit­ing sto­ry­line ex­plores no­tions of friend­ships, in­ner bat­tles, the gap be­tween dreams and re­al­ity, and un­ex­pected events that change the lives of the 10 ma­jor marathon run­ners and their coach.

Based on the youth novel by Shion Miura, the 2D an­i­mated (23 x 30’) se­ries is di­rected by Kazuya No­mura and tar­gets teens and an­ime lovers world­wide. As Nip­pon TV’S Masaki Shiode tells us, “We tele­cast the wildly pop­u­lar Hakone Eki­den race live ev­ery year, and we are now air­ing the highly ex­pected an­ime in con­junc­tion with this event.
