Welcome to the 7th Edition of the World Animation and VFX Summit!

- By Jean Thoren

We at the magazine are so excited about our 7th World Animation and VFX Summit, which takes place Nov. 3-5 at its new venue, The Garland in North Hollywood, California. This beautiful, warm and intimate property consists of seven acres of park-like land in the heart of the “Toon Town” that surrounds the hotel. The proximity to so many of the country’s top animation and VFX studios makes it easy to start your week on Sunday night at our Gala Awards Ceremony and continue to meet and network over the next two days with people from these creative demesnes, and around the world. Perhaps you will find value in extending your stay at The Garland while you visit with some of the people you meet at the summit who may become your future partners.

The World Animation and VFX Summit is a way to visit key players in our industry, all while relaxing in the ambiance that we create for you. It is our goal at the Summit to make your experience one that nurtures future creative production and the valuable relationships that are necessary when you are jumping into the usual long process of making an animated show or movie. You will not be exhausted, but energized and inspired as you enjoy our meals, panel sessions and cocktail parties, relax and renew old (or make new) relationships by the pool, or learn about the many new trends and ideas that will be introduced by our speakers. The location of the hotel is especially convenient if you are heading over to the American Film Market in Santa Monica on Wednesday following the summit, or plan to visit some of the many studios and companies that call this area home.

We hope you will take time to realize the value of time spent connecting to your fellow delegates, learning form their unique perspectives and visualizing how that new knowledge and insight will form your company’s future success. There are many sales markets around the world where buyers and sales people make appointments every half hour to cut deals for content that is already in process or in the can. I like to imagine that this event is for the future of your endeavors. We all know that cooperation and partnership is the best way to put together the complicated financial and creative structure for the content of the future. Our panels are built with the goal to introduce you to the top talent and their innovative ideas.

We encourage that our guests share their experience throughout the two days, in order to move our industry forward and deliver better messages and entertainment to the young audience that will shape our global future.

We are finishing off this year’s Summit with a panel of people who are taking a stand to support the causes that they feel need exposure and our help. If you are one of these people, and feel that we at the magazine can help you spread your important message, please let us know. As we have done in our magazine’s 33-year history, the staff is here specifically to connect and support our fantastic industry and the art and technology that is the basis of the content you produce. We hope that you will continue to keep us informed about your latest projects and achievements. We are only as good as the news we receive!

We hope to see you at the Summit this year! All our very best,

Jean, Kim, Ramin, Mercedes, Sheri, Jan, Steve, Matt, Susanne, Dina and Kristin and our fabulous volunteers!
