Doggone Pet Mat
Give your pet special treatment with this fun and practical mat worked in worsted-weight yarn.
14 inches wide x 22 inches long
• Red Heart With Love medium (worsted) weight acrylic yarn (7 oz/370 yds/ 198g per ball): 1 ball each #1001 white, #1601 lettuce, #1401 pewter
• Size J/10/6mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
• Tapestry needle
12 sc = 4 inches; 16 sc rows = 4 inches Take time to check gauge.
Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Refer to chart as necessary, changing colors when color of chart squares change. Each square represents 1 single crochet. Keep all strands attached for later use until they are not needed anymore. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.
Row 1: With pewter, ch 61, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each rem ch across, turn. (60 sc)
Rows 2–9: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.
Row 10: Ch 1, sc in next 10 sts, change color (see Stitch Guide) to white and drop pewter strand, keep attached for later use (see Pattern Notes). With white, sc in each of next 6 sc. Bring in a new strand of pewter and drop white, with pewter, sc in each of next 28 sts. Bring in a new strand of white and drop pewter, with white, sc in each of next 6 sts. Bring in a new strand of pewter and drop white, with pewter, sc in each of last 10 sts, turn.
Note: You now have two strands of white and 3 strands of pewter attached to work.
Row 11: Ch 1, sc in each of next 9 sts, bring up white strand and drop pewter, sc in each of next 8 sts, bring up pewter strand and drop white, sc in each of next 26 sts, bring up white and drop pewter, sc in each of next 8 sts, bring up pewter and drop white, sc in each of next 9 sts.
Rows 12–37: Referring to the chart for color changes, continue working in sc across, picking up the color strands as needed. After each row, turn and ch 1.
Note: In row 32, you will need to bring in a new strand of pewter and a new

strand of white. Cut all yarns except for last pewter used on row 37.
Rows 38– 46: With pewter, ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, 3 sc in first st, sc in each st across to last st, 3 sc in last st.
Rotate work and work 33 sc evenly along side edge, 3 sc in corner. Rotate work and sc in each st along opposite side of starting ch, 3 sc in last st. Work 33 sc evenly along next edge, join (see Pattern Notes) in first st of rnd. Fasten off pewter.
Rnd 2: With lettuce, join in any st, ch 1, sc in each st around, working 3 sc in center sc in each corner, join in first sc, turn.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in each st around, working 3 sc in center sc in each corner, join in first sc. Fasten off.
