Spiral Bun Hat
Make this fun hat in one evening and wear it the next day! Crocheted in worsted-weight yarn, try using a self-striping yarn for a totally different look.
19 inches in circumference
• Red Heart With Love medium (worsted) weight acrylic yarn (7 oz/370 yds/198g per ball): 1 ball #1914 berry red
• Size H/8/5mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
• Tapestry needle
10 sc = 3 inches; 9 sc rows = 3 inches Take time to check gauge.
Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.
Row 1: Ch 26, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each rem ch across, turn. (25 sc)
Row 2: Ch 1, working in back lps (see Stitch Guide) only across, 2 sc in first st (top of hat), sc in each of next 17 sts, sc dec (see Stitch Guide) in next
2 sts, sc in each of next 5 sts (ribbing), turn. (25 sc)
Row 3: Ch 1, working in back lps only across, sc in each of next 5 sts, sc dec in next 2 sts, sc in each of next 17 sts, 2 sc in next st, turn.
Rows 4–55: [Rep rows 2 and 3 alternately] 26 times.
Row 56: Rep row 2.
Row 57: With WS facing and working through foundation chs and back lp of row 56, sl st in each st across, turn hat RS out, do not fasten off.
Rnd 1: Working around top edge of hat, ch 1, sc in same row end as beg ch-1, ch 1, [sk 1 row end, sc in next row end, ch 1] around, join (see Pattern Notes) in beg sc. Fasten off.
Ch 86, beg in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in back bar of ch (see illustration), sl st in back bar of each ch across. Fasten off. Weave tie through ch-1 sps around trim edge of hat. Knot each end of tie. Place hat on head, pull tie ends gently to close opening around base of bun, tie ends in a bow.
