Ma­te­ri­als

• Caron Sim­ply Soft Tweeds medium (worsted) weight acrylic/vis­cose yarn (5 oz/ 250 yds/141g per skein): 1 skein each #94023 off-white, #23002 gray heather and #23003 taupe

• Size H/8/5mm cro­chet hook or size needed to ob­tain gauge

• Ta­pes­try nee­dle

• Stitch marker

Gauge

7 sc = 2 inches; 8 rows = 2 inches

Pat­tern Notes

Weave in loose ends as work pro­gresses. Join with slip stitch as in­di­cated un­less oth­er­wise stated. Hand of Mitt is worked in con­tin­u­ous rounds; do not join or turn un­less oth­er­wise stated. Place marker at be­gin­ning of round and move up as work pro­gresses.

Spe­cial Stitch

Sin­gle cro­chet join (sc join): Place slip knot on hook, in­sert hook in in­di­cated st, yo, pull up a lp, yo and draw through both lps on hook.

Head­band Band

Row 1 (RS): With gray heather, ch 13, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (12 sc)

Rows 2–37: Ch 1, sc in each st across; do not fas­ten off, turn.

Braid First Strip

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in each of first 4 sc, leave rem sts un­worked, turn. (4 sc)

Rows 2–39: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. At end of last row, leav­ing a long tail for sewing, fas­ten off.

2nd Strip

Row 1 (RS): With RS fac­ing, sc join (see Spe­cial Stitch) off-white in first un­worked st of row 37 of Band, sc in each of next 3 sc, turn. (4 sc)

Rows 2–39: Rep rows 2–39 of First Strip.

3rd Strip

Rows 1–39: With taupe, beg in next un­worked st of row 37 of Band, rep rows 1–39 of 2nd Strip.

Braid Strips and sew to op­po­site side of foun­da­tion ch.

Cuff First Wrist­band Half

Row 1: With gray heather, ch 7, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. (6 sc)

Rows 2–13: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.

Braid First Strip

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in back lp (see Stitch Guide) in each of first 2 sts, leave rem sts un­worked, turn. (2 sc)

Rows 2–17: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. At end of last row, leav­ing a long tail for sewing, fas­ten off.

2nd Strip

Row 1 (RS): With WS fac­ing and work­ing in back lps, sc join (see Spe­cial Stitch) off-white in first un­worked st of row 13 of Cuff, sc in next sc, turn. (2 sc)

Rows 2–17: Rep rows 2–17 of First Strip.

3rd Strip

Rows 1–17: With taupe, beg in next un­worked st of row 13 of Cuff, rep rows 1–17 of 2nd Strip.

2nd Wrist­band Half

Row 14: With WS of First Wrist­band Half fac­ing and work­ing in front lps (see Stitch Guide) of row 13, sc join gray heather in first st, sc in each rem st across, turn. (6 sc)

Rows 15–26: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn. At end of last row, do not fas­ten off.

Palm

Rnd 1 (RS): Now work­ing in rnds and in ends of rows, work 26 sc evenly sp around. Place marker (see Pat­tern Notes). (26 sc)

Rnds 2 & 3: Sc in each sc around.

Rnds 4–12: 2 sc in first sc, sc in each rem st around. At end of last rnd, do not fas­ten off. (35 sc in last rnd)

Thumb Cover

Rnd 1: Sc in each of first 6 sc, sk next 23 sc, sc in each of last 6 sc. (12 sc)

Rnds 2 & 3: Sc in each sc around.

Rnd 4: Sc in each of first 6 sc, sc dec (see Stitch Guide) in next 2 sc, sc in each of last 4 sc. Fas­ten off. (11 sc)

Fin­ger Cover

Rnd 1: Sc join gray heather in first st of rnd 1 of Thumb Cover, sc in each sk st of rnd 12 of Palm. Place marker. (24 sc)

Rnds 14–18: Sc in each sc around. At end of last rnd, fas­ten off.

Fin­ish­ing

Braid Strips of Cuff. Work­ing through both thick­nesses of first and last rows of Cuff, sew Braid to Cuff across ap­pro­pri­ate Wrist­band Half to cre­ate right and left Mitts. 
