Ma­te­ri­als

• Red Heart With Love medium (worsted) weight acrylic yarn (7 oz/370 yds/ 198g per ball): 1 ball each #1001 white, #1601 let­tuce, #1401 pewter

• Size J/10/6mm cro­chet hook or size needed to ob­tain gauge

• Ta­pes­try nee­dle

Gauge

12 sc = 4 inches; 16 sc rows = 4 inches Take time to check gauge.

Pat­tern Notes

Weave in loose ends as work pro­gresses. Re­fer to chart as nec­es­sary, chang­ing col­ors when color of chart squares change. Each square rep­re­sents 1 sin­gle cro­chet. Keep all strands at­tached for later use un­til they are not needed any­more. Join with slip stitch as in­di­cated un­less oth­er­wise stated.

Mat Front

Row 1: With pewter, ch 61, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each rem ch across, turn. (60 sc)

Rows 2–9: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.

Row 10: Ch 1, sc in next 10 sts, change color (see Stitch Guide) to white and drop pewter strand, keep at­tached for later use (see Pat­tern Notes). With white, sc in each of next 6 sc. Bring in a new strand of pewter and drop white, with pewter, sc in each of next 28 sts. Bring in a new strand of white and drop pewter, with white, sc in each of next 6 sts. Bring in a new strand of pewter and drop white, with pewter, sc in each of last 10 sts, turn.

Note: You now have two strands of white and 3 strands of pewter at­tached to work.

Row 11: Ch 1, sc in each of next 9 sts, bring up white strand and drop pewter, sc in each of next 8 sts, bring up pewter strand and drop white, sc in each of next 26 sts, bring up white and drop pewter, sc in each of next 8 sts, bring up pewter and drop white, sc in each of next 9 sts.

Rows 12–37: Re­fer­ring to the chart for color changes, con­tinue work­ing in sc across, pick­ing up the color strands as needed. Af­ter each row, turn and ch 1.

Note: In row 32, you will need to bring in a new strand of pewter and a new

strand of white. Cut all yarns ex­cept for last pewter used on row 37.

Rows 38– 46: With pewter, ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.

Bor­der

Rnd 1: Ch 1, 3 sc in first st, sc in each st across to last st, 3 sc in last st.

Ro­tate work and work 33 sc evenly along side edge, 3 sc in cor­ner. Ro­tate work and sc in each st along op­po­site side of start­ing ch, 3 sc in last st. Work 33 sc evenly along next edge, join (see Pat­tern Notes) in first st of rnd. Fas­ten off pewter.

Rnd 2: With let­tuce, join in any st, ch 1, sc in each st around, work­ing 3 sc in cen­ter sc in each cor­ner, join in first sc, turn.

Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in each st around, work­ing 3 sc in cen­ter sc in each cor­ner, join in first sc. Fas­ten off. 
