• Size L/11/8mm cro­chet hook or size needed to ob­tain gauge

Gauge

With 2 strands of yarn held tog, 10 dc = 4 inches; 5 dc rows = 4 inches 1 Granny Square = 5 inches square

Pat­tern Notes

Join with slip stitch as in­di­cated un­less oth­er­wise stated. Chain-3 at be­gin­ning of round counts as first dou­ble cro­chet un­less oth­er­wise stated. For granny squares, you will only be work­ing into chain spa­ces. Skip all stitches un­less oth­er­wise spec­i­fied.

Lapghan Granny Square

Make 12 with 2 strands of fish­er­man, 20 with 2 strands of cran­berry and 31 with 1 strand of fish­er­man and 1 strand of cran­berry.

Rnd 1 (RS): Hold­ing 2 strands of yarn tog, ch 4, join (see Pat­tern Notes) to form a ring, ch 3 (see Pat­tern Notes), 2 dc in ring, [ch 2, 3 dc in ring] 3 times, ch 2, join in top of beg ch-3. (12 dc, 4 ch-2 sps)

Rnd 2: Turn, sl st in first ch-2 sp (see Pat­tern Notes), ch 3, 2 dc in same sp, [ch 1, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp] 3 times, ch 1, 3 dc in beg ch-2 sp, ch 2, join in top of beg ch-3. (24 dc, 4 ch-2 sps, 4 ch-1 sps)

Rnd 3: Turn, sl st in first ch-2 sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same sp, [ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp] 3 times, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in beg ch-2 sp, ch 2, join in top of beg ch-3. (36 dc, 4 ch-2 sps, 8 ch-1 sps)

Fas­ten off, leav­ing 42– 45 inch end­ing tails on fish­er­man and cran­berry squares for later join­ing.

Assem­bly

Ar­range squares as shown in assem­bly diagram.

With RS tog and work­ing through the WS lp only on each square, sew squares tog with a whip­stitch seam (see il­lus­tra­tion). At each seam be­tween 2 squares, there should al­ways be 1 mul­ti­col­ored square and 1 solid- col­ored square. Hold­ing 2 long end­ing tails of solid color tog, sew each of these seams.

Edg­ing

With RS fac­ing and hold­ing 2 strands of cran­berry tog, join in any cor­ner ch-2 sp, ch 1, [ig­nor­ing seams be­tween squares, sc in each st and in each ch sp across to next cor­ner ch-2 sp, 3 sc in cor­ner ch-2 sp] 4 times, join in first sc. Fas­ten off and weave in ends. (420 sc: 89 sc across each short edge, 115 sc across each long edge, 3 sc in each cor­ner)

Fin­ish­ing

Weave in each strand of yarn in­di­vid­u­ally, not hold­ing 2 tog. 
