• As­sorted pas­tel-color scraps • 1 fat quar­ter green-and-white check • 1/3 yard blue-with-white dots 5/8 yard green-with-white dots • 3/4 yard white al­pha­bet print • Back­ing to size • Bat­ting to size* • Thread • Ba­sic sewing tools and sup­plies *Warm Blend bat­ting from The Warm Com­pany used to make sam­ple.

Cut­ting From pas­tel-color scraps:

• Cut 30 (67/8") D squares.

From green-and-white check:

• Cut 4 (21/4" x 20") bind­ing strips.

From blue-with-white dots:

• Cut 2 (37/8" by fab­ric width) strips. Sub­cut strips into 12 (37/8") A squares.

From green-with-white dots:

• Cut 1 (67/8" by fab­ric width) strip. Sub­cut strip into 4 (67/8") F squares. • Cut 4 (21/4" by fab­ric width) bind­ing strips. Trim strips into 4 (20"–30") lengths.

From white al­pha­bet print:

• Cut 2 (37/8" by fab­ric width) strips. Sub­cut strips into 12 (37/8") B squares. • Cut 2 (31/2" by fab­ric width) strips. Sub­cut strips into 22 (31/2") C squares. • Cut 1 (67/8" by fab­ric width) strip. Sub­cut strip into 2 (67/8") E squares and 2 (31/2") C squares (24 to­tal).

Com­plet­ing the Blocks

1. Draw a di­ag­o­nal line from cor­ner to cor­ner on the wrong side of each B square.

2. Re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 1, place a marked B square right sides to­gether with an A square and stitch 1/4" on each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line to make two A-B units. Press. 3. Re­peat step 2 with all A and B squares to make a to­tal of 24 A-B units.

4. To com­plete one Dou­ble Tri­an­gle block, select two each A-B units and C squares. 5. Sew a C square to one A side of one A-B unit to make a row as shown in Fig­ure 2; press. Re­peat to make a sec­ond row. 6. Join the two rows as shown in Fig­ure 3 to com­plete one Dou­ble Tri­an­gle block; press. 7. Re­peat steps 4–6 to com­plete a to­tal of 12 Dou­ble Tri­an­gle blocks.

Com­plet­ing the Tri­an­gle Units

1. Re­peat steps 1 and 2 in Com­plet­ing the Blocks, mark­ing a di­ag­o­nal line on only 18 of the D squares. Pair with the re­main­ing D squares and the E and F squares to make 24 D, four D-E and eight D-F units as shown in Fig­ure 4.

Com­plet­ing the Quilt

Re­fer to the Assem­bly Di­a­gram for po­si­tion­ing of the blocks and tri­an­gle units as needed.

1. Ar­range the D, D-E and D-F units with the Dou­ble Tri­an­gle blocks in eight rows of six blocks and/or units each, be­ing care­ful of the place­ment of the D-E and D-F units to cre­ate the star de­sign in the cen­ter. Press seams in ad­ja­cent rows in op­po­site di­rec­tions.

2. Join the rows to com­plete the quilt top; press.

3. Cre­ate a quilt sand­wich re­fer­ring to Quilt­ing Ba­sics on page 109.

4. Quilt as de­sired.

5. Join bind­ing strips, al­ter­nat­ing fab­rics, to cre­ate one long bind­ing strip.

6. Bind edges re­fer­ring to Quilt­ing Ba­sics on page 109 to fin­ish.
