Future traffic growth

Antelope Valley Press (Sunday) - - Front Page -

According to the study truck traffic over Tehachapi has increased 36% based on 2014 data, which needs to be updated. That figure reflects some 5,764 average daily trucks.

Smith of KERNCOG said people at the agency were shocked to note that that is a bigger increase than the 17% hike in truck traffic on Interstate 80 over Donner Pass.

Traffic could double by 2040, according to a Caltrans study.

The project’s three sections, coming east from Bakersfield, are 2.63 miles in the vicinity of Bena Road, estimated to cost $32 million in today’s dollars; 3.03 miles of roadway from just west of Bealville Road to near Hart Flat at $33 million; and 2.46 miles on each side of Broome Road at an estimated $40 million,

Each section involves “(l)arge cuts and fills and a large need for new right of way,” the proposal notes.
