Desert Chris­tian boys win first Her­itage League meet

LOS AN­GE­LES — The Desert Chris­tian cross coun­try team won its first Her­itage League meet on Wed­nes­day at Ken­neth Hahn Park.

It was the first league meet for the Knights since the Desert Moun­tain League folded.

The Desert Chris­tian boys won the meet with a per­fect score of 15 by tak­ing the first five spots in the var­sity race that also fea­tured Vasquez, Palmdale Aerospace Acad­emy, Trin­ity Clas­si­cal, Bridges, San Gabriel Acad­emy, Faith Bap­tist, and Sum­mit View West.

Sopho­more Brent Roet­cisender won the boys race with a time of 17 min­utes and 42 sec­onds, ju­nior David Cad­dick was sec­ond, also fin­ish­ing in 17:42, ju­nior Emer­son Cal­houn was third in 17:43, the same time as sopho­more team­mate Kody Del Frate and Daniel Cad­dick was fifth with a time of 17:44.

Desert Chris­tian se­nior Aaron Oliver fin­ished 16th with a time of 20:24 and ju­nior Cameron Mor­gan was 30th in 21:06.

Desert Chris­tian coach Andy Visokey said the per­for­mance was “sen­sa­tional.”

“(It’s) a great start to (the) team’s ten­ure in the Her­itage League,” Visokey said.

Vasquez fin­ished sec­ond over­all in the boys race with 64 points.

Vasquez ju­nior Brae­den Flores was sixth with a time of 18:01, ju­nior Kyle John­son was ninth in 18:54 and fresh­man Dil­lon An­der­son was 13th (19:54).

Palmdale Aerospace fin­ished sev­enth over­all and was led by fresh­man Christo­pher Vil­le­gas, who was 22nd over­all (20:35).

The Desert Chris­tian girls team fin­ished sec­ond, just one point be­hind Trin­ity Clas­si­cal Acad­emy.

Ju­nior Me­gan McGrath won the girls var­sity race with a time of 21:46 and fresh­man team­mate Emily Cad­dick was sec­ond with a time of 21:47.

Desert Chris­tian ju­nior Roxi Sanchez was 11th over­all in 26:06, fol­lowed by her twin sis­ter Shyann Sanchez, who fin­ished 12th in 26:16.

The fi­nal scor­ing run­ner for Desert Chris­tian was sopho­more Kas­san­dra Saave­dra, who fin­ished 15th in 27:30.

Jes­sica Devore was 16th (28:00) and Madi­son Hel­ton was 28th (31:02).

“It was frus­trat­ing los­ing by one point, es­pe­cially with a key run­ner miss­ing,” Visokey said. “(I am) hope­ful the girls will win their first league ti­tle since 2016.”

Palmdale Aerospace fin­ished fourth over­all, as ju­nior Dreena Gar­cia was 16th overal with a time of 26:38.

Vasquez only fielded two run­ners, but se­nior Jackie Beltran fin­ished 12th over­all (25:43) and ju­nior Camilla Galvez was 13th (25:43).
