9 p.m., 3 a.m. on KOCE-15 A Russian-born artist who came to the United States with his family at age 10 and later helped shift the epicenter of the art world from Paris to New York is profiled in the new “Rothko: Pictures Must Be Miraculous.” This intimate one-hour portrait chronicles Mark Rothko’s professional rise as his signature style helped define Abstract Expressionism. The program also includes scenes from “Red,” a Tony Award-winning play about Rothko that premieres on “Great Performances” in November.
10 p.m., 3:30 a.m. on CMT Country fans of a certain age with fond memories of the long-running game show “Hollywood Squares” — the celebrity-driven game show in which stars perched in a giant tic-tac-toe board try to help civilian contestants win money — are likely to enjoy this upcoming new variation on the game, which gets a Nashville- style makeover with a rotating slate of contestants from the country music arena.
