-

PALMDALE — The Highland softball team is one game away from tying for the Golden League title after defeating Littlerock 12-0 in five innings on Tuesday.

It was senior day for Highland, which honored its five seniors — Alexa Alvarez, Ashley Bramer, Jocelyn Carrillo, Kayla Sandoval and Jazlyn Sharpe. The seniors were the first five batters in Tuesday’s lineup/

“We had a really nice celebration for senior day,” Highland coach Doug Harmon said.

Mariah Jamison went 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI for the Bulldogs (), while Jazlyn Sharpe finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

Highland’s Jocelyn Carrillo hit a three-run home run and Rozelyn Carrillo had a double and an RBI.

Highland pitcher Annika Gugler did not allow hit, but walked two batters and struck out six in 3.1 innings to earn the win in the circle. Rozelyn Carrillo finished out the game, allowing one hit and three walks with two strikeouts in 1.2 innings.

The two teams will play at Littlerock in the final game of the regular season on Thursday.

Desert Christian 26, Mojave 10 (5)

MOJAVE — The Desert Christian softball team avenged a loss to Mojave earlier this season with a 26-10 victory in five innings to close out Desert Mountain League play on Tuesday.

“Our girls played a great game today,” Desert Christian assistant coach Kimberly Horn said. “We only had one error today.”

Desert Christian lost 26-16 to Mojave on March 29.

Marisol Rodriguez hit a triple and drove in three runs for the Knights (910, 3-3 DML), while also being a part of six outs on defense.

Desert Christian’s Madison Helton took a softball to the knee, but toughed it out and ended up with three RBIs on the day.

All nine batters for the Knights picked up a hit on Tuesday.

Desert Christian will now wait for Mojave to finish up their season with two games against Mammoth today and Friday. If Mojave (3-8, 1-3) wins both games they would tie for second with Desert Christian. Since only the top two teams from the DML are guaranteed spots in the playoffs, who gets to go to the playoffs will be determined by coin flip.
