City offices closing, but some services available

PALMDALE — Palmdale’s city offices will be closed from Dec. 24 to Jan. 1, but some public services will still be available during that time.

The closure is in observance of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, and as part of a cost saving measure as an unpaid furlough for employees.

Offices will reopen for normal business hours of 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Jan. 2.

The furlough does not affect Los Angeles County Sheriff or Fire department services.

During the closure, public works crews will be available to handle emer

gencies that may arise, such as sewer overflows, broken sprinkler lines in city parks and landscaped areas and hazards such as downed tree limbs, signs and potholes, city officials said.

Additional­ly, residents may download the Recycle Coach app to report problems, as well as keep track of trash and recycling collection services.

Maintenanc­e such as street sweeping and parks will continue during the furlough period.

Online options are available for some services during the furlough period.

Businesses with city business licenses expiring on Dec. 31 may pay their fee online any time at blicense.cityofpalm­dale.org/ WebRenewal­s/

Parking and administra­tive citations may be paid online any time at cityofpalm­dale.org/206/Citations

Citations may also be paid or disputed by phone by calling 866-420-2894 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

During the furlough, tow releases may be paid at the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station, 750 East Ave. Q.

Schedules and registrati­on for Recreation and Culture programs are available during the furlough online at www.PlayPalmda­le.com

Other city-related facilities and services have holiday schedules during this time period.

The Palmdale City Library will be closed Dec. 24 and 25 and Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. It will reopen at 10 a.m. Jan. 2.

Online library services will continue to be available during this time at cityofpalm­dale.org.library

The Chimbole Cultural Center will be closed through Jan. 12 for the furlough and scheduled maintenanc­e. For assistance, call the Recreation and Culture Department at 661-267-5611.

The Palmdale Playhouse will be closed today through Jan. 5. Tickets for upcoming events may purchased any time online at PalmdalePl­ayhouse.com

South Antelope Valley Emergency Services will be closed for regular services, reopening Jan. 6.

Residents who require temporary services during that time are encouraged to contact Saint Vincent de Paul, 1600 East Ave. R-4, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. It will be providing food assistance today and Dec. 30 from 9 to 11 a.m., with check-in beginning at 8:30 a.m. An ID is required to receive food assistance. For details, call 661-947-3306.

The Palmdale Transporta­tion Center will offer Metrolink and Greyhound services on their regular schedules except for Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, when a modified weekend schedule will be in effect. A Metrolink train to accommodat­e Tournament of Roses Parade attendees will be offered.

Legacy Commons for Active Seniors will be closed Dec. 24 through Jan. 1, reopening Jan. 2. The congregate meal program, provided by Santa Clarita Valley Senior Services, will continue on a modified box lunch schedule from 10 a.m. to noon on Dec. 26 through 31, with orders required in advance by calling Beattie at 661-267-5904.

The Joe Davies Heritage Airpark at Palmdale Plant 42 will be closed during the furlough period, reopening Jan. 10 for its regular hours of 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, weather permitting.
