Merry Christmas y’all

Antelope Valley Press - - Opinion -

It wasn’t an easy decision to leave our home of over four decades. There were many friends and family to bid farewell. However, California had become so decrepit and crazy we knew it was time to seek a better home.

Whenever I wrote of the many reasons behind our move it seemed to elicit the same response. Namely, that we chose to live with ignorant racists in the remnants of the Jim Crow south.

That’s a demeaning stereotype employed by the intellectually lazy who wont acknowledge (what they can see with their own eyes) has happened to California. Rather than discussing the causes of the golden state’s decline, they focus attention on a phony straw man.

Instead of looking down their noses at the “ignorant southerners” they ought to look at what is happening in their home state. California is the state with the largest percentage of residents 25 and older who never finished ninth grade. Yes, you read that correctly — adults who never even finished ninth grade. Two and half million adults in California have less than a ninth grade education. It’s also the state with the smallest percentage of adults who graduated from high school.

The once golden state now leads the country with the most under educated adult residents in the nation. It wasn’t always so.

Merry Christmas y’all.
