PALMDALE — One person was killed and two others critically injured in a head-on collision Monday morning.

Two others were taken to an area hospital with critical injuries.

A stretch of 50th Street East has been deadly, with two fatal collisions occurring near the intersection with Palmdale Boulevard days apart in November.

Desiree Lumas of Lancaster, 54, was killed in a three-vehicle crash there on Nov. 14, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

That collision occurred at about 9 a.m., on 50th Street East, North of Palmdale Boulevard, when a 1999 Honda Accord traveling North on 50th Street East crossed the center line and clipped a trailer being towed by a 2004 Chevy Silverado, Deputy

Ronald Sneed of the Palmdale Sheriff ’s Station said.

The Accord, driven by Lumas, continued for about 80 feet in the Southbound lane, before colliding head-on with an Antelope Valley Transit Authority bus that was not carrying passengers at the time.

The bus driver and the driver of the Silverado sustained minor injuries, he said.

The drivers were the sole occupants of all three vehicles involved in the collision.

On Nov. 16, a second collision in the same area left one person dead and another injured.

That collision involved a 1998 Toyota Camry and a 2017 Dodge Challenger.

It occurred about 1:25 a.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff ’s Information Bureau said.

The Camry was Northbound on 50th Street East, when it veered into the Southbound lanes and into the path of a 2017 Dodge Challenger.

Andy Hernandez, 26, died at the scene of the collision, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

Hernandez, whose hometown was not known, was riding in the Camry.

Paramedics rushed another person to an area hospital and that person’s condition was not immediately known.

In November 2018, a head-on collision on 50th Street East, North of Avenue P killed Lancaster resident Jessica Ordaz, 29.

Enterprise Elementary School Principal Mary Kruppe, 37, of Pearblossom, has been charged with murder for the alcohol-related crash.

Kruppe was Southbound on 50th Street East at nearly 7 p.m. Nov. 15, 2018, when she drove into the Northbound lanes and collided head-on with a vehicle driven by Ordaz, killing her.

Kruppe is being held in lieu of $2 million bail.
