Desert Christian tops TCA in triple OT

LANCASTER – The Desert Christian boys basketball team beat Trinity Classical Academy 74-71 in triple overtime on Tuesday in a Heritage League game at Desert Christian High.

Cameron Morgan led the Knights (9-10, 6-4) with a game-high 18 points, 10 rebounds, three steals and one assist, outplaying a 6-foot, 5-inch player for Trinity Classical.

Desert Christian senior Jordan Nave hit a 3-pointer that sealed the win and hit a 3 in an earlier overtime to tie the game. Nave finished with 12 points, three assists, four steals, four rebounds and one block off the bench.

Isaiah Diaz added 15 points, five rebounds, five assists, one block and one steal for Desert Christian and Frank Flores finished with 10 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals.

“This was a total team effort,” Desert Christian coach David Nurse said. “Our point guard Isaiah Diaz played lights out.”

Desert Christian will host Western Christian on Friday.

Knight 65, Highland 56

PALMDALE — The Knight boys basketball team picked up a much-needed win over Highland, 6556, in a Golden League road game on Tuesday.

“It was huge,” Knight coach Tom Hegre said. “We needed that to get back in the playoff hunt.”

Kylie Graham led the Hawks (611, 4-3 GL) with 23 points and added four assists.

“He played really well,” Hegre said. Will Reynolds added 16 points, going 5-for-6 shooting and 4-for-4 at the free-throw line. He also had eight rebounds.

Knight play Palmdale at home on Friday, while Highland (11-10, 4-3) plays at Littlerock.

Girls Basketball Lancaster 62, Eastside 21

LANCASTER — The Lancaster girls basketball team remained undefeated in Golden League with a 62-21 win over Eastside on Tuesday at Lancaster High.

Kristen Lopez led the Eagles (11-4, 6-0) with 12 points on four 3-pointers, setting up the inside game for Lancaster.

Vanessa Fletes added nine points on 2-of-2 3-pointers and Shaniya Sinclair had six points, rebounding and passing well for the Eagles, who play at Quartz Hill on Thursday.

Boys Soccer Rosamond 4, Cal City 0

ROSAMOND — The Rosamond boys soccer team defeated California City 4-0 in a High Desert League game on Tuesday.

The Roadrunner­s (8-6, 6-0 HDL) and goalkeeper Alex Rivas have posted six shutouts in league play so far, outscoring their opponents 27-0.

Rivas recorded one save as Rosamond rested several starters due to minor injuries.

“It was an ugly win, but we’ll take it,” Rosamond coach Miguel Guillen said. “Cal City did good today.”

The Roadrunner­s led 2-0 at halftime after goals by Daniel Nunez and Jorge Baldares on assists from Angel Murrillo and Daniel Rehacek, respective­ly.

Alejandro Chavez scored the third goal on an assist by Ivan Alfaro, who then scored the fourth goal on an assist from Angel Alanis.

“That’s what we want,” Guillen said about the four different goal scorers. “We want other players to step up and contribute. Contribute to the team and make us stronger.”

Rosamond has two tough road games coming up at Frazier Mountain on Thursday and Bishop on Tuesday.

“This game was key so we can be ready for Thursday’s game in the rain and Tuesday in the cold in Bishop,” Guillen said.

The Roadrunner­s defeated Frazier Mountain 3-0 on Dec. 10, but lost to the Falcons 1-0 in the Roadrunner Classic on Jan. 4.

Paraclete 1, Sierra Canyon 1

CHATSWORTH — The Paraclete boys soccer team tied Sierra Canyon 1-1 in a Gold Coast League match on Tuesday at Sierra Canyon.

The Spirits (8-4-2) tied the match in the 77th minute on a header by Jake Fuqua, off a penalty shot by Daniel Burgos.

Paraclete goalie Logan Reese had seven saves in the match. Sierra Canyon scored in the 20th minute.

Paraclete will play at Viewpoint on Thursday in a 2 p.m. match.
