Former Senior of the Year seeks Council seat

LANCASTER — Lancaster resident Fran Sereseres, the 2016 Senior of the Year, joined the list of candidates vying for a seat on the Lancaster City Council in the April 14 municipal election.

Sereseres, a member of the Lancaster Homeless Impact Commission, joins challenger Kam Koford and incumbents Ken Mann and Darrell Dorris in the race for two seats on the City Council. Mayor

R. Rex Parris will face two challenger­s in the election: David Paul and Aubray McPherson, according to the latest informatio­n provided Wednesday by the City Clerk’s office.

The deadline for potential candidates to file their nomination papers is Friday. Since all three incumbents filed nomination papers for the election, the deadline will not be extended. The terms for mayor and the two Council seats are three years, 11 months.

Anyone interested in running for a seat on the City Council can pick up nomination papers at the City Clerk’s office at City Hall, 44933 Fern Ave.

Candidates must be U.S. citizens and live within Lancaster’s city limits. They must also be 18 years of age or older and registered to vote within the city at the time nomination papers are issued. Potential candidates also cannot be on parole for the conviction of a felony. They are required to pay a $25 filing fee.

The April 14 municipal election will be an all-mail ballot election.

Voters will also consider a measure to increase the City’s transient occupancy tax to 9%, up from the current 7%.
