Par­a­clete beats Brent­wood at buzzer

LANCASTER — The Par­a­clete boys basketball team won its Gold Coast League opener over Brent­wood 60-58 on Thurs­day at Par­a­clete High.

Par­a­clete fresh­man Mau­rice Wright hit an 8-foot shot at the buzzer for the Spir­its (17-4, 1-0), who beat Brent­wood for the first time in at least eight years.

Brent­wood tied the game by hit­ting two free throws with eight sec­onds re­main­ing, but the Spir­its drove the length of the court to set up the game win­ner.

Nolan Boff­man led Par­a­clete with 20 points, Amado Cole­man had 13 points and 11 re­bounds and JC An­thony fin­ished with 12 points and 10 re­bounds.

“Ob­vi­ously this is the best game we’ve played this year,” Par­a­clete coach New­ton Chelette said. “They have re­ally bought into what we’re do­ing of­fen­sively and de­fen­sively. I’m very proud of what they did tonight.”

Par­a­clete will play Grant on Satur­day in a show­case at Her­itage Christian.

Girls Basketball Knight 60, Palmdale 32

PALMDALE — The Knight girls basketball team de­feated Palmdale 60-32 in a Golden League game at Palmdale High on Thurs­day.

Se­nior Bailey Cas­sell led the

Hawks with 21 points, three re­bounds, two as­sists and two steals, sopho­more Bless­ing McBride fin­ished with 15 points, five re­bounds, three as­sists and four steals and se­nior Keyna Hadley added 12 points, seven re­bounds, four as­sists and five steals.

Knight jumped out to an 11-5 lead in the first quar­ter and outscored Palmdale 21-4 in the third.

Boys Soc­cer Par­a­clete 2, View­point 1

CALABASAS — The Par­a­clete boys soc­cer team scored a 2-1 Gold Coast League vic­tory at View­point High on Thurs­day.

Matthew Mar­tel scored two late goals for the Spir­its (9-4-2, 2-2-2) and goalie Lo­gan Reese had 11 saves.

Daniel Bur­gos and Justin Cham­ber­lin played solid de­fense for Par­a­clete.

Par­a­clete coach Ryan Carper said it was a good ef­fort by the team and keeps the Spir­its ahead of the pack with the fi­nal push for a play­off berth.

Par­a­clete will play at Wind­ward on Tues­day at 3 p.m.

Rosa­mond 3, Fra­zier Moun­tain 0

LEBEC — The Rosa­mond boys soc­cer team re­mained un­de­feated in the High Desert League with a 3-0 vic­tory at Fra­zier Moun­tain on Thurs­day.

Ivan Al­faro scored the first goal for the Road­run­ners (7-0) on an as­sist from An­gel Ala­nis, Daniel Nunez scored the sec­ond goal on an as­sist from Al­faro and Ale­jan­dro Chavez scored the third goal, as­sisted by Danieel Re­hacek.

Rosa­mond coach Miguel Guillen said An­gel Murillo played his heart out in the mid­field and Ro­man Gor­diano did a stu­pen­dous job at left back.

“Fra­zier Moun­tain did re­ally good,” Guillen said. “They should have scored on us in the first half.”

Rosa­mond plays at Bishop on Tues­day.

LEBEC —The Rosa­mond girls soc­cer team beat Fra­zier Moun­tain 2-0 in a High Desert League match at Fra­zier Moun­tain High on Thurs­day.

Alexy Finch scored on an as­sist from Irais Ponce and Finch as­sisted a goal in the sec­ond half by Michaela Gad­dis for the Road­run­ners (11-4-1, 5-1-1).

Rosa­mond beat Cal­i­for­nia City 6-1 on Tues­day, in part on a save on a penalty kick by fresh­man goalie Kylee Eubanks-Hemme, who was play­ing for the first time since suf­fer­ing a bro­ken arm early in the sea­son.

Rosa­mond plays at Bishop on Tues­day.
