Knight holds on for win over Palmdale

PALMDALE — The Knight boys basketball team defeated Palmdale 65-60 in a Golden League game at Knight on Friday.

Clay Hegre led the Hawks (7-11, 5-3) with 18 points and five rebounds and Daryl Patterson finished with 15 points.

Knight led 37-24 at halftime, but Palmdale outscored the Hawks 19-13 in the third quarter.

“We settled down in the fourth and hung on in the end,” Knight coach Tom Hegre said.

Knight will play at Lancaster on Tuesday.

Western Christian 83, Desert Christian 52

LANCASTER — The Desert Christian boys basketball team lost to Western Christian 83-52 in a nonleague game at

Desert Christian High on Friday.

Jerek Stevenson led the Knights (9-13) with 14 points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal, Isaiah Diaz finished with 12 points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal and Cameron Morgan had 10 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Desert Christian will host Rosamond in a nonleague game today at 5 p.m.

Boys Soccer Littlerock 2, Highland 1

LITTLEROCK — The Littlerock boys soccer team defeated Highland 2-1 on Friday to stay in the hunt for a playoff spot.

Steven Julian and Martin Barranco Luna scored goals for the Lobos, who led 1-0 at halftime, while Luis Martinez and Angel Julian picked up assists.

Littlerock goalkeeper Eduardo Hernandez recorded six saves.

“Every team in this Valley on every given day can beat anybody,” Highland coach Lemuel Galvao said. “They defended their house, they played really hard, they knew if they lost making the playoffs would be really hard.”

The Lobos scored their second goal about 25 minutes into the second half to go up 2-0. The Bulldogs (3-3-1) got on the board with six or seven minutes left on a goal from Salvador Luviano that hit the side bar and top bar and went into the net.

“A great shot. … A beautiful shot,” Galvao said. “We were pressing and pressing and pressing and just ran out of time.”

Highland used two goalkeeper­s —one for each half —in the game and they both allowed one goal. Brian Sanchez earned three saves in the first half, while Gerardo Xilonzochi­lt picked up three saves in the second half.

Highland will play host to Antelope Valley on Wednesday, while Littlerock plays at Palmdale.
