Crash kills one, in­jures two

LAKE LOS AN­GE­LES (CNS) — A head-on crash be­tween two pickup trucks in Lake Los An­ge­les killed one per­son and left two oth­ers with ma­jor in­juries, au­thor­i­ties said Sun­day.

The col­li­sion was re­ported at 8:30 p.m., Satur­day at 170th Street East and Palm­dale Boule­vard, ac­cord­ing to the Los An­ge­les County Fire Depart­ment.

Two peo­ple were trapped, one in each ve­hi­cle, fire of­fi­cials said. Fire­fight­ers used Jaws of Life equip­ment to free them, of­fi­cials said.

A 60-year-old man

was driving a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 north­bound on 170th Street, north of Av­enue R, when the pickup truck veered into the south­bound lane and di­rectly into the path of a 2007 Nis­san Fron­tier, which was driven by a 39-year-old man from the Palm­dale, the Cal­i­for­nia High­way Pa­trol re­ported.

The motorist in the Nis­san was pro­nounced dead at the scene, the CHP said.

Paramedics rushed the driver of the Dodge, a res­i­dent of Llano, and a pas­sen­ger in the Nis­san, a 29-yearold woman from Palm­dale, to An­te­lope Val­ley Hospi­tal where both were treated for ma­jor in­juries.

Al­co­hol and drugs were not sus­pected fac­tors in the crash.
