Veterans outreach event coming up

- VALLEY PRESS STAFF REPORT

LANCASTER — Antelope Valley Veterans Outreach Committee’s quarterly Veterans Outreach will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 15 at Grace Chap- el, 44638 15th St. West, just south of Lancaster Boulevard.

The Outreach will be held in the Centennial Building behind the Worship Center.

The event will include a large breakfast and barbecue lunch provided by Lancaster Rotary Club members.

The Outreach is for all veterans, with a special em

phasis to help homeless vets.

The Veterans Outreach provides veterans with a wide array of special programs to help them live as self-sufficiently and independently as possible.

Services offered will include clinical assessment and referrals to needed medical treatment for physical and psychiatric disorders, including substance abuse. They will also have “benefits” personnel on hand.

Other services will include haircuts by volunteers from Supercuts, legal aid and public counsel. There will also be representatives from “Homes 4 Families,” counseling, Antelope Valley Veterans Community Action Coalition, the Emblem Club and Grace Veterans Fellowship.

High Desert Medical Group will also be present to offer blood pressure testing, cholesterol and other vital screenings, by licensed and certified medical personnel.

These screenings can be offered to those not enrolled in the VA program. MHA Military Resource Center, Alcoholics Anonymous and Daughters of the American Revolution will be on hand.

All veterans are welcome, but the priority is to help veterans needing assistance. Homeless and needy veterans are often difficult to locate, so anyone knowing a vet in need is urged to contact them and encourage them to attend.

The Veteran’s Outreach events are underwritten by Hogs & Horses, a local group that supports veteran’s events through their Motorcycle & Horseback Poker Run each year.

Other donations are welcome to supply the needs of our participants, including: hygiene items, new clothing, phone cards and sleeping bags.
