Two-weekend run concludes

- VALLEY PRESS STAFF REPORT

Cedar Street Theatre’s production of “Crimes of the Heart” will conclude its two-weekend run with three performances Feb. 7-9 at the Nellie and Lou Bozigian Family Theatre.

The Pulitzer Prize winning tragicomedy features the three Magrath sisters who reunite in their hometown of Hazelhurst, Miss., for the first time in a decade.

“The story revolves around how the sisters’ past has affected their current lives, Director Gary Shwaffner said.

The sisters reunite after youngest sister Babe is arrested for shooting her husband. Middle sister Meg left home to pursue stardom as a singer. Lenny, the eldest sister, remained in Hazelhurst and served as a caregiver to their grandfather.

Shaffner said the sisters had a bad relationship with their parents and their grandparents.

“It goes on and on, but they had a bad rap and they did the best they could as sisters,” he said. “Then they kind of all split and went their separate ways, did their separate things and horrible, bad things have happened to them. They’re all kind of drawn back together. The story ends on a very hopeful note as the sisters kind of realize together, they can probably conquer the world.”

“Crimes of the Heart” will be in the Nellie and Lou Bozigian Family Theatre at 8 p.m., Feb. 7 and 8; and 2 p.m., Feb. 9.

Tickets cost $20 each, $18 for seniors and youth.
