Body pulled from Lake Palmdale
Victim believed to be missing man
PALMDALE — Authorities on Thursday recovered a body from Lake Palmdale believed to be that of a 34-year-old man who was reported missing the day prior.
Robert Lewis Mercer was seen arriving at Lake Palmdale about 7 a.m. Wednesday. An empty boat with fishing gear inside of it was found anchored on the lake a few hours later, prompting an hours-long search by authorities.
Los Angele County Fire Department and Sheriff ’s Department dive crews and helicopter crews conducted a search that included sonar operations. Authorities suspended the water search at dusk Wednesday and continued a ground search with flashlights and scent dogs. The water search resumed Thursday morning.
About 12:30 Thursday the sheriff ’s Special Enforcement Bureau tweeted an update: “LASD sonar and dive operation has concluded. Missing boater has been recovered from the lake.”
A spokesperson with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office confirmed the body of a male adult was recovered from the lake Thursday but said investigators were still working on the case and that an identification on the body was not available.
