PALMDALE — A revised agreement between the Palmdale Fin and Feather Club and its landlord, the Palmdale Water District, will provide free honorary memberships and voluntary memberships to a greater number of District employees.
The District’s Board of Directors, on Monday, approved an amended agreement granting the additional memberships.
The Palmdale Fin and Feather Club has long leased District property at Lake Palmdale for the use of club members. The lease agreement has included free honorary memberships for directors and management personnel.
Voluntary memberships, offered at either a special rate or by working at the club for a total of 24 hours, have been available for other District employees and retired employees with 15 or more years of service.
Under the amended agreement approved Monday, honorary memberships are also extended to those employees considered career-status with at least five years with the District.
Voluntary memberships will be available for employees with less than five years’ experience.
According to the agreement, the total number of District memberships with the club is limited to 100.
“The reason we wanted this in the lease is so that nobody can take it away from you,” Club President Joseph Beach said.
Changes in policy have been made in the past, with changes in officers. Making it part of the lease will prevent such changes, he said.
“Our employees really appreciate that, because what better place to hang out than the Fin and Feather Club right here,” Director Robert Alvarado said.
The Board also approved contracts for two main water line replacement projects during Monday’s meeting. Both projects were subject to bidding and the Board selected the lowest responsible bidders.
One contract, for a maximum $172,500 was awarded to Bob O. Construction of Lancaster, to replace the water main line on Avenue V-5.
This project will replace 1,750 feet of both three-inch and two-inch pipe in an area that has had numerous failures requiring emergency repairs, according to the staff report.
The Bob O. Construction bid was the lowest of four received, with the next-lowest bid coming in at nearly $25,000 more. The firm was also the only local company bidding, according to the staff report.
The second contract was for a maximum of $278,600 to Kirtley Construction of San Bernardino, to replace the water main on Avenue P for 1,500 feet, from 25th Street East to the east.
This project will replace the 16-inch pipeline, which has also been the site of numerous leaks, Engineering Manager
Scott Rogers said.
“This is a problematic area,” he said. It is believed the pipes being replaced are from the 1960s.
The contractor is new to working with the District and their bid came in about $90,000 less than the next-least expensive of four received, Rogers said.
“We’re looking forward to working with them on a successful project,” he said.
The lease agreement between the Palmdale Water District and the Palmdale Fin and Feather Club for property at Lake Palmdale has been amended to provide free honorary memberships to more District personnel and voluntary memberships that may be fulfilled through working for the club. The club provides recreation at the lake that is a reservoir for the District’s water supply.
